A puppet is a figure which represents a certain character and is manipulated by a puppeteer. It can be a depiction of a human or a non-human character. Puppets can be very simple in construction or extremely complex.
Varieties of puppets:
Finger puppet: This is a very simple variation of puppet that fits into a single finger. It has no moving parts and consists of a hollow cylinder shape to cover the finger.
Hand or glove puppet: This form of puppet is controlled by one hand that covers the interior of the puppet. The puppeteer controls the mouth and head and the puppet's body hangs over the entire arm. A sock puppet is a classic example of a hand or glove puppet made from a sock which is placed over the hand of the puppeteer.
For sock puppets you will need:
Marionette or string: This kind of puppet is supported by a number of strings and a central rod attached to a control bar held by the puppeteer.
Shadow puppet: Shadow puppet consists of a cut-out figure held between a source of light and a translucent screen
