Suppressed Emotions and Diseases !!!!

In this article, I would like to talk about suppressed emotions and how it becomes one of the main causes for any disease. The reason for choosing this topic is the increasing rate of diseases like Cancer, Autism, Heart attack, Depression, PCOD, Kidney stones, Infertility, Alzheimer's etc which I hear at-least one new case every month.
Whenever we hear that someone is diagnosed with cancer, we immediately tend to link bad habits with cancer. When I was young, like many others, I too used to think that only smoking and drinking causes cancer. But that's not the case all the time. If that's the case, then why does a 8-year old kid get Lymphoma?  Likewise, when we hear someone in his 40's or 50's suffering from depression, we think its normal due to the hectic lifestyle. We easily blame stress as the only reason for any depression-related disorders. That stress could be due to unhappy job or family. If unhappy job or family is the main cause then why does a 2-yr old get Autism? Autism is a neurological disorder.
Ayurveda says that an imbalance in Prana Vata plays a main role in causing Autism. Lack of sleep and stressful life are likely to cause Prana Vata imbalance. If this is true, what stress will a 2-year child have to be diagnosed with Autism? Vaccines are assumed to be a culprit due to the ingredients present in it. Are Vaccines the only cause? Okay, we can also blame the pesticides and other environmental toxins around us. Lets say the parents are well-educated and chooses organic homemade foods and other good products for their kid, still why does the child get any auto-immune disorder, be it a Cancer or Autism or liver failure.

We all know that stress plays an important role in many diseases. I would say almost all diseases. What causes stress? Missing the train, going late to doctor's appointment, waiting in a long queue are some of the stress which most of us might be facing in day-to-day life. But these are short-lived. Stress which remains every single day is the one that is more likely to cause these auto-immune diseases. One of the main cause for chronic stress is "Suppressed Emotions". I can hear some of you saying "YOU ARE RIGHT".

We are in a society where emotions cannot be expressed all the time. For example, we are taking 2hrs off from work for a doctor's appointment but the doctor is 3hrs late. Can we shout at the doctor for being late? We won't do that. At that moment, we suppress our anger but we soon forget it after going home. We are able to forget it because we are not going to face the doctor everyday. But this is not the case with our boss or our family members. We have to face these people everyday. At work and at home, we suppress lot of our emotions like anger, fear and worries. We might not like what our boss or spouse or parents or children do. We don't want to lose our job so we keep quiet at work. We don't want to be named as a "bad dad" or "bad mom" so we don't argue with our children. This happens with our spouse, parents, relatives, friends too. We simply shut ourselves most of the time even though our inner voice shouts at the irritating person.

What happens when we suppress our emotions?
The first thing that happens is your nervous system gets tensed and triggers the neurotransmitters to go into a "panic mode". Your head, neck, shoulders and back tightens up. Then it affects your brain functionality. Stress hormones gets released which will cause a temporary loss of appetite. Then ultimately, if affects your gut health. Your gut is your "second brain". Your digestion weakens. When this type of stress continues everyday and becomes chronic, your immune system weakens and paves way for all diseases. Too much stress will make the person eat very often and contributes unhealthy weight gain. Even if a person is on a strict diet plan, stress will affect weight loss. Tumor, Cancer, Depression, Infertility are mainly caused by suppressing emotions, especially when the person is not addicted to any bad habits.

Okay, the reason stated above will hold good for adults. What about children, especially young children with Autism or ADD or ADHD. While vaccines and medications DO create stress to a pregnant mom, lets talk about other causes. If a mom is scared or worried of anything during pregnancy or lactation, it will affect her child's mental health. Well, this is known to all. Once the child is born, parenting plays a key role in building stress to the child. Lets say an infant or toddler is crying frequently. We will try to pacify the child for few times by gently rocking, feeding or playing. Then we get fed up and try to give the child some junk (including electronic gadgets) to stop crying. The reason for the child to cry could be due to some pain or simply wanted to spend some time with mom or dad. What happens when we give the junk or "keep quiet" medication to the kid?  The child will get distracted and remains quiet or sleep due to medication. What happened to his/her emotions? Simply overlooked.

Lets say the child cries again without any known medical reasons. Then we try to gently scold the child and abruptly stop the tears. Suppressing emotion starts here. The child gets scared of the parents and as he/she grows, learns how to suppress emotions efficiently instead of letting it out gently. The same thing happens when a grown-up child is asked to do an activity which he/she is not interested. Some parents feel satisfied to give their kids whatever they want to keep them quiet thinking that this will make the kid stress-free. If that is true, current generation kids get almost everything they want, sometimes even more than their needs. If our logic works, then most of the kids should be disease-free. But is that the case now?

Even though bad diet plays a major role in welcoming diseases, stress due to suppressed emotions is the next major cause. Kids get whatever they want but does not get one most important thing from their parents, TIME. Parents don't have time to listen to their kids. Parents blame kids and vice-versa. Whoever to be blamed, kids are suffering from deadly diseases more than adults. Seeing a child suffering from a disease is the worst thing on earth. I am not saying that we should always pamper our kids, which is not good too. Instead we can spend some time to sit and talk to them. We think kids are interested in spending time with gadgets than with parents. But they were made to do so by parents only, right? Nowadays children of all ages don't seem to talk to their parents and remain in their own world, isolated.

This is not the case just with infants or toddlers or teens but also with adults. We adults either don't have time or don't want to share our emotions with our family members thinking it might lead to a serious issue. So we keep our emotions with us which gets piled up, piled up and piled up and becomes a disease one day. Doctors give fancy names to depression-related disorders and prescribes medications for almost all depressions. Stress/ depression doesn't need medication. In-fact, it doesn't work that way. It just wants "patiently listening ears" to get out of the body.

Speak out. That is the only way to get rid of any disease you have. If you have a family member suffering from any mild to serious disorders, even if its a cancer or diabetes or arthritis, sit with them and listen to their emotions. If you really love them and want them to be free of disease, it's OK to let them show their anger on you (if that is what they are holding off).  I am not saying that releasing our emotions will completely cure all the disease. But it will definitely help the sufferer feel better and in most of the mind-related disorders, this itself will be the best medicine.
Who wants to suffer? We all are born to be happy. We want our children to be happier than us. Let us share our emotions in a gentle way (if possible ;))

with our loved ones and let us keep others happy & healthy by listening to them patiently !!!!!

Happy Living !!!! Happy Loving  !!! Happy Life !!!
