✨ My Pondy Trip in One Line - simply being ME. ❤️ Travel. Live. Explore. Repeat

🌿 3 Days. One Bike. A Little Pondy. A Lot of Memories. ❤️

Chennai → Pondicherry → Auroville → Cuddalore → Pondy → Chennai

Good food. Good people. Good vibes. A little rain. A little temple. A little beach. A lot of walking. And plenty of unexpected memories.

Sometimes, you don't need a long vacation to feel completely refreshed.

Sometimes, three days are enough.

You just need a bike, a backpack, a good friend, an open mind and a place that lets you slow down.

And that is exactly what this Pondy trip turned out to be.

🏍️ Day 1 — Chennai to Auroville

The plan was simple.

Start from Chennai early morning, ride towards Pondy, check into Freedom Home Backpackers Hostel inside Auroville, and then just go with the flow.

No rushing.

No complicated itinerary.

No ticking off places just for the sake of saying “I visited.”

Just travel, explore, relax and enjoy.

The bike ride from Chennai to Pondy itself felt like the beginning of a little escape.

Once I reached Auroville, everything slowed down.

The roads became greener.

The surroundings became quieter.

And suddenly, it felt like I had stepped away from the usual Chennai routine.

🌳 Auroville — Where the Forest Became the Plan

Auroville was probably the best place to begin this trip.

I spent time simply going around the Auroville forest, walking through the green roads, exploring the surroundings and enjoying the calmness.

Then came Matrimandir.

Not just a place to visit, but one of those places where you naturally slow down.

The greenery, silence, open spaces and peaceful surroundings made the whole experience feel different.

There was no pressure to do anything.

I could simply walk.

Look around.

Take photographs.

Sit somewhere.

And enjoy.

That was the mood of this entire trip.

☕ Cafés, Bakeries & Little Pondy Moments

Of course, no Pondy trip is complete without cafés and bakeries. 😄

We explored a few cafés, grabbed food and coffee, walked around and enjoyed those little breaks between exploring.

I have always felt that cafés are not just about food.

Sometimes they are about sitting with people, talking nonsense, laughing, watching the world go by and doing absolutely nothing important.

And I loved that part of the trip.

🎬 An Evening at the Mall

Later in the evening, we decided to go for a movie.

The movie?

Well… let's just say it was toxic. 😂

But honestly, we didn't care much.

Good AC.

Mall wandering.

Snacks.

Random conversations.

And just enjoying the fact that we were away from our normal routine.

Sometimes even a bad movie becomes a good memory when you are in the right mood. 😄

🏡 Back to the Hostel — And Then the Real Trip Began

Coming back to the hostel was when the trip became even more interesting.

I met people from different places — Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Punjab and more.

Different cities.

Different backgrounds.

Different stories.

But somehow, within a few hours, everyone became buddies.

That is one thing I really love about hostels.

You arrive as strangers and sometimes leave with stories, memories and new friends.

🐕🦚🌿 The Forest Had Its Own Guests

The hostel surroundings were beautiful.

Dogs running around.

Cows.

Sparrows.

Peacocks.

Hens.

Roosters.

Forest creatures.

Bugs.

Fireflies.

And even a few forest snakes!

Everywhere I looked, there was something alive.

Green vegetation.

Trees.

Leaves.

Bird sounds.

Little insects moving around.

It didn't feel like I was staying in a hostel.

It felt like I was staying inside nature.

And honestly, I loved it.

🌧️ Rain + Power Cut + Card Games = Perfect Night

Then came the rain.

And with the rain came a power shutdown.

Normally, that would be annoying.

But that night?

It became one of the best parts of the trip.

No electricity.

No phones dominating the conversation.

No TV.

Just a bunch of travellers sitting together, talking, laughing and playing cards.

Rummy, Train, Set game;etc..

Random games.

Long conversations.

Stories about life.

Travel stories.

Work stories.

Dreams.

Plans.

Failures.

Funny experiences.

We slowly started knowing each other's lives.

And somewhere between the games and conversations, the night became special.

Sometimes the best memories happen when the original plan doesn't work.

🚌 Day 2 — A Temple, A Hill & A Beautiful Bus Ride

The next morning, we started early and took a bus towards Thiruvandipuram, Cuddalore.

This was the temple day I had planned into the trip.

And it turned out to be beautiful.

I visited Devanadha Swamy Temple and Hayagriva Swamy Temple at Thiruvandipuram — one of the 108 Divya Desams

.

The darshan was awesome.

The seva was beautiful.

And the entire temple experience felt peaceful.

🛕 Thiruvandipuram — More Than Just a Temple Visit

What I really enjoyed was that the experience wasn't just about darshan.

There was the hill climbing.

The temple on the hill.

The river-side surroundings.

The bus journey.

The peaceful atmosphere.

And of course…

the prasadam! ❤️

There is something about temple prasadam that can never really be explained.

Simple.

Traditional.

Delicious.

And somehow it always tastes better after a long walk and darshan. 😄

☕ Back to Auroville — Food, Coffee & No Hurry

After the temple visit, we headed back towards Auroville.

Had some nice food.

Had coffee.

Relaxed.

Talked.

And simply enjoyed being there.

No hurry to run to the next destination.

That was the beauty of this trip.

I wasn't trying to finish Pondy.

I was trying to experience Pondy.

🌕 The 8 KM Walk We Didn't Plan

Later in the evening, a simple walk turned into an almost 8 km walk around Auroville and the Pondy forest with the trip buddies.

And what a walk it was!

A little drizzle.

A beautiful full moon.

Dark forest roads.

Cool weather.

Green surroundings.

Lots of talking.

Lots of laughing.

And at one point…

we even got a little lost. 😂

But nobody really panicked.

We were a gang.

So we just kept walking, figuring things out together.

Honestly, getting lost for a while made the walk even more memorable.

We finally reached back at the hostel around 9 PM.

Tired legs.

Happy faces.

Good conversations.

And a feeling that the day was completely worth it.

🌙 The Best Sleep — Somewhere in the Forest

After the long walk, I slept like a baby.

The hostel was surrounded by trees and nature.

And at night, instead of city traffic and horns, there were birds and forest sounds.

That kind of sleep hits differently.

No rush.

No alarms in my head.

No work thoughts.

Just darkness, cool air and t    he sounds of nature.

One of those nights where you wake up and feel like you actually rested.

🌊 Day 3 — Sea, Sand & A Slow Morning

The final day started slowly.

I went for a morning walk at Rock Beach.

The sea.

The morning breeze.

The sound of waves.

And that peaceful Pondy morning feeling.

No rush.

Just walking and relaxing.

Then came Pearl Beach.

Another beautiful stretch of sea.

Another opportunity to simply sit, walk, look around and enjoy.

🛕 One More Day of Pondy

After checking out of the hostel and having breakfast, it was time to explore Pondy a little more.

We visited:

Manakula Vinayagar Temple.

Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Sunday Market.

And a few more temples and places around MG Road and Anna Salai.

The final day had a completely different vibe.

Less forest.

More city.

More streets.

More people.

More local life.

But still, I kept the same relaxed mood.

🚫 And Yes… I Skipped Chidambaram

The original plan had Chidambaram in it.

But this time, I decided to skip it.

And that's okay.

Because travel doesn't always have to be about completing every place on the list.

Sometimes you simply say:

“Not this time. Maybe next time.”

And continue enjoying where you are.

I more or less stuck to the Pondy plan we had made before leaving Chennai — Auroville, beaches, temple visits, cafés, markets, walking and exploring — just without forcing myself to fit everything into three days.

And I think that made the trip better.

❤️ What Made This Trip Special?

It wasn't just Pondy.

It wasn't just Auroville.

It wasn't just the temples or beaches.

It wasn't even the bike ride.

It was the combination of everything.

Good food.

Good coffee.

Good people.

Good conversations.

Good walks.

Good darshan.

Good weather.

A little rain.

A little adventure.

A little getting lost.

A lot of laughter.

And plenty of nature.

🌿 I Think I Needed This Trip

Sometimes we don't realise how tired we are until we actually stop.

This trip reminded me that I don't always need a big holiday to recharge.

I don't need luxury.

I don't need a perfect plan.

I don't need to visit ten places in a day.

Give me a backpack, a bike, a simple hostel, a good bunch of people, a temple, a beach, some greenery, a cup of coffee and enough time to breathe.

That's more than enough for me.

🏍️ Chennai, I'm Coming Back…

Three days passed way too quickly.

From the Chennai-Pondy bike ride…

to the forests of Auroville…

from Matrimandir…

to cafés and bakeries…

from a questionable movie and mall AC 😂…

to hostel friendships…

from rain and power cuts…

to Card games and midnight conversations…

from Thiruvandipuram temple and beautiful darshan…

to an unexpected 8 km forest walk under the full moon…

from Rock Beach…

to Pearl Beach…

from temples and markets…

to coffee and slow walks…

this trip had a little bit of everything.

And now…

G3 is back to Chennai. ❤️

A little tired.

A lot happy.

Fully refreshed.

Completely rejuvenated.

And already thinking…

“Where are we going next?” 🏍️🌿🌊

Just Being Me — A Life of Journeys, Purpose and Little Moments

A simple story of a woman who chose to live, learn, travel, grow and keep discovering herself. There are some lives that cannot be described by a job title, a designation, or a list of achievements. Mine is one of them. I am  Gayathri Raghunathan  — a professional, a traveller, a learner, a nature lover, a spiritual seeker, a homemaker, a dreamer, and above all, a woman who believes that life is meant to be experienced.
