🌿 Nine Temples, One Day, One Beautiful Journey 🙏🏻

My Navagraha Temple Yatra around Kumbakonam – A Day of Darshan, Peace & Gratitude

Some journeys are planned.

Some journeys are felt.

And some journeys begin with a simple thought — “Let me go… let me seek His blessings… let me spend a day with myself.”

My one-day Navagraha temple journey around Kumbakonam was one such experience. Nine temples. Nine different villages. Nine forms of divine energy. And somewhere between the roads, temples, prayers and long stretches of travel, I found something even more beautiful — peace within myself.

The Navagraha temples are spread across the Kumbakonam–Mayiladuthurai–Karaikal region, making this a wonderful spiritual circuit for a dedicated day of travel.

I started with a simple intention:

No rush in the heart.
No expectations.
Just Darshan, gratitude and the joy of travelling.

And then the journey began… ❤️

🌙 1. Chandra – Thingalur

Sri Kailasanathar Temple – Chandran Sthalam

My first stop was Thingalur, the temple associated with Chandran – the Moon.

The presiding deity is Sri Kailasanathar, with Periyanayaki Amman.

There was something very calming about beginning the journey with Chandra.

The Moon reminded me of something simple:

Life has its phases.

Some days are bright.
Some days are quiet.
Some days are cloudy.

But every phase has its own beauty.

I stood there for a while, prayed quietly and started the day with a peaceful heart.

🌼 2. Guru – Alangudi

Sri Abathsahayeswarar Temple

Next came Alangudi – Guru Sthalam.

Here, Lord Shiva is worshipped as Abathsahayeswarar, with Elavarkuzhali Amman, and Guru is associated with Dakshinamurthy.

The atmosphere felt deeply spiritual.

Guru made me think about wisdom.

Not just the wisdom we learn from books or experience…

But the wisdom to understand that:

Not everything needs an answer.
Not everything needs to be controlled.
Sometimes, we simply need to trust the journey.

🐍 3. Rahu – Thirunageswaram

Sri Naganathaswamy Temple

From Alangudi, the journey continued to Thirunageswaram, the Rahu Sthalam.

The temple is dedicated to Sri Naganathaswamy.

This was one of those places where I naturally slowed down.

Rahu is often associated with uncertainty, desire and the unknown.

And that itself felt meaningful.

Because life doesn't always show us the entire road.

Sometimes we have to walk with faith.

You don't need to know the whole journey.
Just take the next step.

☀️ 4. Surya – Suryanar Kovil

The Temple of the Sun

Then came Suryanar Kovil.

This temple felt different.

Here, Surya Bhagavan is the principal deity, accompanied by his consorts, and the temple complex contains shrines for the Navagrahas. It is particularly distinctive within the Navagraha circuit because all nine planetary deities are represented within the same complex. (Tamil Nadu Tourism)

Standing before Surya made me think about light.

We all go through darkness.

We all have difficult days.

But the Sun rises again.

Every single day.

Keep going.
Your light will return.

That was one of the thoughts I carried with me when I left the temple.

🌸 5. Sukra – Kanjanur

Sri Agneeswarar Temple – Sukra Sthalam

Next was Kanjanur, the Sthalam associated with Sukra – Venus.

The temple's presiding deity is Agneeswarar, with Karpagambal.

By this point, the journey was no longer simply about visiting temples.

It was becoming a beautiful conversation with myself.

Sukra reminded me to appreciate the beautiful things in life.

A peaceful morning.

A good meal.

A beautiful temple.

A green road.

A smile.

A quiet moment.

A journey taken alone.

Happiness doesn't always need to be grand.
Sometimes, it is hidden in ordinary moments.

🔱 6. Sevvai / Angarakan – Vaitheeswaran Koil

Sri Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple

Then came Vaitheeswaran Koil – Sevvai / Angarakan Sthalam.

Here I prayed to Vaidyanatha SwamyThaiyalnayaki Amman and Selva Muthukumaraswamy.

There was something deeply emotional about this visit.

The name itself — Vaidyanatha — brought thoughts of healing.

And I realised that healing isn't always about the body.

Sometimes we need healing for:

our thoughts,
our worries,
our disappointments,
our fears,
and our tired hearts.

I simply stood there and prayed:

“Give me the strength to accept what I cannot change and the courage to continue with what I can.”

After a lovely lunch we continued our journey.

🐍 7. Ketu – Keezhaperumpallam

Sri Naganathaswamy Temple

The road then took me to Keezhaperumpallam – Ketu Sthalam.

The temple is associated with Naganathaswamy and Soundaryanayaki Amman.

Ketu made me think about something I have slowly learned in life:

Letting go.

We hold on to so many things.

Old memories.

Old expectations.

Old disappointments.

Old versions of ourselves.

But sometimes life becomes lighter when we learn to say:

“It happened.
I learned.
I accept.
I move forward.”

That is also a kind of freedom.

🌿 8. Budhan – Thiruvenkadu

Sri Swetharanyeswarar Temple

Next came Thiruvenkadu – Budhan Sthalam.

This was one of the most fascinating temples of the journey.

The principal deity is Swetharanyeswarar, and Shiva is worshipped here in three significant forms — Swetharanyeswarar, Nataraja and Aghora Moorthy. (Tamil Nadu Temples)

There are also important goddess shrines associated with the temple.

Standing here, I thought about clarity and learning.

Life teaches us continuously.

Sometimes through people.

Sometimes through success.

Sometimes through failure.

And sometimes simply through silence.

Every experience has something to teach us.
We only need to be willing to learn.

🪔 9. Sani – Thirunallar

Sri Dharbaranyeswarar Temple

And finally…

Thirunallar – Sani Sthalam.

The magnificent Sri Dharbaranyeswarar Temple, associated with Saneeswara Bhagavan, was the final stop of my Navagraha journey.

By then, I was physically tired.

But strangely…

my mind felt lighter.

I prayed to DharbaranyeswararPranambikai, and Saneeswara Bhagavan.

Thirunallar is traditionally regarded as an important Saneeswara sthalam, and the temple's official site describes it as a place associated with Saneeswara worship and parihara. (Thirunallaru Temple)

The final Darshan felt like the closing chapter of a beautiful day.

And my only prayer was:

“Whatever comes in life, give me the strength to face it with courage, patience and faith.”

SHRI DHARBARANYESWARASWAMY DEVASTHANAM

❤️ Nine Temples. Nine Lessons.

When I look back at this one-day journey, I don't remember only the kilometres travelled.

I remember the feelings.

🌙 Chandra — Learn to accept life's phases.
🌼 Guru — Keep learning and trust wisdom.
🐍 Rahu — Don't be afraid of uncertainty.
☀️ Surya — Keep your inner light alive.
🌸 Sukra — Appreciate life's simple beauty.
🔱 Sevvai — Find strength and healing.
🐍 Ketu — Learn to let go.
🌿 Budhan — Keep learning from every experience.
🪔 Sani — Have patience, discipline and faith.

And somewhere along those temple roads, I understood something very simple.

A spiritual journey doesn't always change the world around us.

Sometimes, it quietly changes the way we look at the world.

🚶‍♀️ And yes… I travelled alone.

This was perhaps my favourite part.

No waiting for someone.

No adjusting the plan for everyone.

No worrying about whether somebody else was enjoying the journey.

I walked.

I prayed.

I travelled.

I ate.

I watched the roads.

I looked at the trees.

I admired the temples.

I smiled at strangers.

I took photographs.

I sat quietly.

And I enjoyed my own company.

Because travelling alone taught me something beautiful:

Being alone is not the same as being lonely.

Sometimes solitude is where we hear ourselves most clearly.

🌿 My Navagraha Yatra

One day.
Nine temples.
Hundreds of kilometres.
Countless prayers.
Many little moments.
One peaceful heart.

I started the day looking for divine blessings.

I came back carrying something equally precious —

Gratitude.

Gratitude for the journey.

Gratitude for the opportunity to travel.

Gratitude for every temple I could visit.

Gratitude for the roads that carried me from one place to another.

And most importantly…

Gratitude for being able to spend a beautiful day with myself. ❤️

✨ My little takeaway

Life is not only about reaching the destination.

It is about the road we take.

The people we meet.

The temples we visit.

The prayers we whisper.

The food we enjoy.

The photographs we capture.

The silence we experience.

And those beautiful moments when we suddenly realise:

“I am happy to be exactly where I am.”

நம்பிக்கையுடன் நடப்போம்…
அருளுடன் வாழ்வோம்…
நன்றியுடன் பயணிப்போம். 🙏

Just Being Me — A Life of Journeys, Purpose and Little Moments

A simple story of a woman who chose to live, learn, travel, grow and keep discovering herself. There are some lives that cannot be described by a job title, a designation, or a list of achievements. Mine is one of them. I am  Gayathri Raghunathan  — a professional, a traveller, a learner, a nature lover, a spiritual seeker, a homemaker, a dreamer, and above all, a woman who believes that life is meant to be experienced.
