Magical Moringa/Drumstick (Murungai in Tamil) !!!!

I would like to share the miraculous benefits of Moringa(a.k.a Drumstick/Murungai). Of-course we all eat Drumstick quite often knowing its medicinal value or at-least for its flavor. Drumstick Leaf is a well known healthy leafy green. In this email I would like to share how these drumsticks do good to our body. Knowing the full benefit of the food we eat is good to our mind and body. It gives us a satisfied and happy feeling while we eat.
Moringa/Drumstick leaves has
  • 47 different anti-oxidants
  • 4 times more calcium than milk
  • 7 times more Vitamin C than an orange
  • 3 times more potassium than a banana
  • 25 times more Iron than spinach
  • 2 times more protein than in milk
Amazing, right?
We all know that our body is made up of 7 tissues/Dhatus (Plasma, Blood, Muscle, Fat, Bone, Bone marrow and Reproductive tissue). When the toxins reach till the third tissue (Muscle), it is quite easy to detoxify. But when it reaches the next level, it becomes more difficult to pull the toxins. That's why people with auto-immune disorders or obesity find it difficult to get healed. When toxins reach bone tissue, the person might experience any of the following symptoms
  • Prolonged fatigue
  • deep chill feeling
  • swelling in joints
  • long term Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Problem in hair and teeth
Our body gets toxins from our diet, medications, cosmetics and many other environmental factors. If bone tissue has lot of toxins, it will be carried to bone marrow which leads to a lot of auto-immune disorders like Cancer, Herpes, Severe anemia, to name a few. If it is further carried to reproductive tissue, it leads to painful menstruation, infertility, impotency, low sperm count, dysmenorrhea, obsessive sexual desire, painful and burning sensation after ejaculation in men. When bone tissue is well nourished and toxin-free, only then other two tissues - Bone Marrow & Reproductive tissue are nourished.
In Sanskrit, Moringa is known as "Shigru" which means "arrow".  It has the intelligence to go deep(like an arrow) into the bone tissue and pulls out toxins from it. By this way, it nourishes and detoxes the last two tissues too. Moringa also supports the detoxification of liver and skin and also helps in nourishing the eyes. Since it has both nourishing and detoxifying effect, it is good to eat it everyday in small amount. It also prevents complications during post-menopause. Researchers are suggesting moringa leaves to treat Type II diabetes. It supplies nutrients for neurotransmitter production.
Should I say more? Well, here are few
  • Anti-depressant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-leukemic
  • Stimulates hair growth
  • Eliminates constipation
  • Aphrodisiac
  • Anti-tumor
  • Increases mental clarity
  • UTI
  • Anti-Cholesterol
  • Healthy wealth loss
  • Heavy metal chelator
  • Anti-ageing
Overwhelmed by its benefits?? There are a lot of amazing things this moringa can do but I don't want to lengthen this email even more :)
Now, many of you might be wondering "why even after consuming moringa I suffer from certain illness mentioned above?!". Not just Moringa, any vegetable (or fruit or grain or lentil) for that matter, will give you its full benefits only when eaten within 4 hours of preparation. After that it loses its Praana, which will eventually make the food less beneficial and indigestible. The food might taste good and look good but what about its life? Taste and look are in our control but we cant get hold of its Praana. This applies to we humans too :)
But, it is quite not practical to eat it within 4 hrs of preparation for those who go to work/school. In that case, at-least try to avoid eating leftovers. Do not eat the food cooked for your breakfast(or lunch) for your dinner.  Do not eat food cooked the previous day. This rule applies to uncooked chutneys too. Please try to eat fresh foods whenever possible to gets its full intelligence.
Kids under 5 years of age are not recommended to have moringa due to its slightly higher detoxifying effect. Kids' body cannot handle so much of detox at this young age. Its better to introduce moringa (both leaves and vegetable) gradually when they are about to turn 5. Once they get used to it, please include it in their diet often. Many kids think Spinach is the only leafy green available on earth :)
Do not use store-bought Moringa powder. You can very well buy the greens and sun-dry it during summer and use it during winter. Whenever fresh leaves are available, try to have it freshly cooked with moong dhal. It is very balancing.
Saute few moringa leaves in ghee and add it to your sambar, dhal or in any savory dish. Include Moringa(both leaves and veggie) in your diet and stay healthy and toxin-free.
