Various Charcters in the great Kalki's Ponniyen Selvan Novel

Vallavaraiyan Vandiyathevan: A bold and witty warrior prince of the Vaanar clan, he serves as the Commander for Southern Troops under Utthama Chola. He's a loyal friend of Karikalan and a messenger for the Chola royals. Vandiyathevan's impulsive nature often lands him in trouble, but he cleverly navigates challenges with his cunning and luck. He is Princess Kundavai's lover and is admired by Manimekalai.

Nandhini: The enigmatic Pazhuvoor Queen, she's the main antagonist, harboring a deep grudge against the Chola dynasty. Born in Madurai, she grew up in a priest family in Pazhayarai. Nandhini's beauty stirred jealousy, and her past connections with Aditya Karikalan fueled her vendetta. Manipulative and vengeful, she orchestrates intricate plots to destroy the Chola empire.

Azhwarkadiyan Nambi (Thirumalaiappan): A loyal Veera Vaishnavite spy, he works for Prime Minister Aniruddha Brahmarayar and Queen Mother Sembiyan Mahadevi. Azhwarkadiyan is Vandiyathevan's close friend, and together, they face numerous dangers. He staunchly supports the Chola government, engaging in verbal battles with rival factions.

Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar: The respected chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom, he's known for his valor and leadership. Despite his authority, he falls victim to Nandhini's schemes due to his infatuation with her. He becomes a pawn in her conspiracy to overthrow the Chola dynasty.

Kundavai (Ilaya Pirattiyar): The intelligent Chola princess, known for her wit and ambitions. She mentors her brother Arulmozhivarman and strives to expand the Chola empire's glory. Kundavai, deeply in love with Vandiyathevan, sends him on a mission to bring back Arulmozhivarman from Sri Lanka, intending to protect her brother and achieve her ambitions.

Vaanathi: A shy yet playful princess of Kodumbalur, raised by her uncle Periya Velar Boothi Vikramakesari. She has prophesied to bear a warrior son. Despite her love for Ponniyin Selvan, she vows never to sit on the throne, driven by her aunt Poonguzhali's accusations. Her devotion to Ponniyin Selvan remains unwavering.

Arulmozhivarman (Ponniyin Selvan/Rajaraja I): The youngest son of Sundara Chola, he's raised in Pazhayarai and earns the title "Ponniyin Selvan" ("Son of Kaveri") after a miraculous rescue by Mother Kaveri. He's destined for greatness, marked by his bravery and determination to safeguard the Chola dynasty.

Aditha Karikalan: The eldest son of Sundara Chola, a renowned warrior commander of Northern Troops. Despite his valor, his hastiness and temper create conflicts, leading to conspiracies against him. His impulsive decisions strain relationships and set the stage for political turmoil.

Poonguzhali: A fearless boatwoman from Kodaikkarai, she rescues Arulmozhivarman and secretly nurses him back to health. Her deep love for her aunt Mandakini Devi and her affection for Ponniyin Selvan drive her actions. She marries Senthan Amuthan, realizing her desire for queenship.

Madhurantaka Uttama Chozhan (Senthan Amudhan): Foster son of Sembiyan Madevi, raised as a Shaivite. Initially humble, he succumbs to Nandhini's influence, transforming into a warrior. His journey mirrors the struggle between his inherent goodness and Nandhini's manipulative ambitions.

Mandakini (Oomai Rani/Singala Nachiyar): Deaf and mute mother of twins, Nandhini, and Amarabhujangan. Despite her disabilities, she protects Arulmozhivarman, exhibiting unwavering love for him and her niece Poonguzhali.

These characters contribute to the complex tapestry of Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic tale, each adding depth and intrigue to the gripping narrative.
